CFP Deadline: Deconstructing Disability: Shifting Paradigms in Literature, Culture and History
This conference aims to open up a space for critically engaging with the field of Disability Studies and the notion of disability. We hope that the ideas and discussions from this conference will work towards recasting dominant and popular perceptions of disability as pathology and inferiority, and generate new counter hegemonic discourses of disability that will push us to rethink and reevaluate conventional ideas of normalcy and deviance. The fields of literary and cultural studies would also benefit from this conference as these radical ideas would push its boundaries through the introduction of new perspectives and ways of seeing, reading, interpreting. On one hand, this critical enquiry will add significantly to other fields like minority studies, gender studies, queer studies, race studies and marginality studies, on the other hand, it will also invigorate the field of disability studies through the fostering of disability as an intersectional identity, existing alongside other dimensions like caste, class, gender and religion.
We encourage scholars from across diverse disciplines to submit their abstracts . Researchers and practitioners from India and South Asia, particularly those away from metropole and working in regional literatures and cultures of disability, are encouraged to apply. Submissions may be based on sub themes covering but not limited to the following:
